Workfunction engineering on room-temperature DNA-catalyzed fuel cells


Abstract

 

The experiment proved that even if the Mg-Ni chemical cell (i.e., the reference sample) contributed little, the difference in Mg, Ni workfunctions, ~1.3V, should have been manifested, if not for the small reaction area (i.e., 5 cm squre Nafion). That is, the fact that Mg was receiving electrons from DNA catalysis on H2 gas and then put them through the load sufficed its role in defining the cell voltage.


 

DNA was extracted and dried from pork liver. It was dissolved in water before being coated onto Mg powder.
